Calendar Girls - August

Here were are the Calendar Girls, with our August creations!   Debbie, was our hostess this month.  She was inspired to give us our challenge this round from the Olympics.   While the actual events may have passed, we will be taking another look via our challenge.

We were asked to use an image that would go with an Olympic event theme.  Well, the first thing I thought of was ice skating.  Why you may ask.   Well, it's not because I do it!   LOL   It is because the most notorious ice skater in the Olympics is from around our area.   Yeppers, Tonya Harding.  The knee capper conspirator herself!   Way to bring global shame to a city.    From knee capping, sex tape selling, hub cap flying, female wrestling to commentary on the series World's Dumbest, she's our gem!

So, I have to share....I know it is not so nice, but there are quite a few things that I cannot get over in this interview.    1.) Did the President really say that?!  2.) The look on the interviewer's face   3.)  When the interviewer tells her she is a piece of work    4.)  What is up with her bangs?!

You might be thinking that I am being a bit harsh on our friend, Tonya.   Well, during the whole scandal there were a lot of legal requests for her and her husband's telecommunications records.   Thus, she would be in our office often.   We had the same team dealing with her.   Guess who got to be on the team?   No bueno!

I can also say that she could really skate.   Amazingly so.  It is a shame that she was not confident enough in her abilities.   She was the first US skater to complete a Triple Axel in competition.   Shown here at 58 seconds.  Did you know that it is named axel after the Norwegian skater who invented it in 1882 and that it has mainly been performed only by men and only a handful of women have been able to do it?  Sorry....back to the card.....

Well, I do know that Sophie is set to do a quadruple axel (is there such a thing?!) here in this card.  I color inspired her from the pro!   Hope you like her!!!!

Please be sure and stop by the other Calendar Girls blogs to see what Olympic wonders are to still be seen.  Their blog links are on the right sidebar.  Have a great day!

Dueling Darlings - August

It is duel {or should I say deal} time for the Dueling Darlings.  The Dazzlers and Divas have a great theme this month of 'Are You Game'?!'

So you know that the theme made me think of a player.  Then it made me giggle at the phrase 'don't hate the playa, hate the game'.   Then I had to listen to the group Player.  You know that you have to sing this one!  There was also a cute boy I once knew in high school that would sing a song he made up....red you win, black you lose, it all depends on the cards you choose!   I wonder what happened to him.....okay I just looked on Facebook he is a sales manager for a pharmaceutical company!  For sure they don't know about his song or his torrid past!!!  Don't hate the playa, hate the game!  LOL

Kelly, was our hostess this round.   She sent the most adorable kit to work with!   Whipper Snapper's Pair of Aces for the image and a oogle of papers and embellies.

Our extra challenge was to use at least two DP's, the wood charm, one ribbon, one button and one bling item.   Oh my.   Buttons.   They frighten me just a little.   They are reminiscent to sewing!   LOL   So, I did use two DP's, the stripes and I covered the wood charm in a DP.  I actually had floss to put in my button {are you impressed yet?}.  I used Distress Stickles so they would not be as shiny, although they do not photograph well.  With that, here is my creation for this round.

Please be sure and visit all of the Dueling Darlings.   Their cards will amaze you!   Blog links are on the right side bar.   Have a great day!

Unidentified Image Swap - August

I hope you all had a good week and are looking forward to a great weekend!   It is our posting date for the Unidentified Image Swap on SCS.

Janet, was our hostess this past round.   She gifted us with the image of Take Time to Smell the Flowers from House Mouse.    I have seen several House Mouse images in the Gallery at SCS, but have not worked with one.   They are very cute indeed!

As previously complained about written, I have been working on using what supplies I have, using scraps, making due with all the supplies I seem to have in abundance.   I am finding that this adds yet another element to the challenge(s) at hand!

In doing this, it has posed some questions for me.   For instance, where on earth did I get such a big pack of Stampin' UP! Mint Melody card stock?!  Why do I have all these DP's and none seem to be 'just right'?   Could this scrap be just a little bit longer?   Why is there not an embellie the right color for this card?   I think you get the idea!   I do have to say with the added challenges, it does seem to feel good in using what I have.  Give it a try!

So in moving on with my own personal challenge for this swap, my card has Stampin' UP! Mint Melody card stock, scrap DP {thanks, Judy}, scrap card stock and seemingly to me the wrong color embellies!   LOL   I hope it all worked out okay for the swap.   I even dug out my Stampin' UP! markers and chalks {insert pat on girl's back}.   Here is my card for this round.....

Thanks, for stopping by.  I hope you have a good day!!!
